Chardonnay 2024 | Tukituki Valley, Hawke’s Bay

The gentle slopes and terraces of the lower Tukituki Valley are cooled by the afternoon Pacific Ocean breeze. Here, hard clay soils have been formed through the erosion of surrounding limestone crags, where fossilised shells can be readily found. Whether influenced by sea air, soil, or both, this tightly focused Chardonnay finishes with a wisp of savoury salinity and flinty oyster shell.

Hawke’s Bay’s ranges and the volcanoes of the central North Island shelter our region from the prevailing westerly weather. These stone giants helped create the home of this Chardonnay: an ancient gravel riverbed topped with shallow, windblown loess and iron-rich volcanic ash — delivering a wine of depth and power.
